About Wendy

I love being a writer. It’s fun. When I write a story, I am in control of what happens.  Like a detective, I notice things and I make up stories in my head. My imagination creates the characters and I give them a family, friends, a home, loves, problems, secret hopes, dreams and fears.

It’s a magic world that we can build with words. I love to teach creative writing workshops to young people. Lots of people have helped me to develop my writing and I’m here to help others who have the same passion.

I used to be a primary teacher, then I taught in a music school, I have two great grown up children, a terrific husband,  lots of family, friends and a couple of small dogs.

Bollywood Dreams is my first real book.

In 2005 I was thrilled to go on a writing retreat to India. We went to Kolkata (Calcutta), Gantok, Kalimpong and Darjeeling. When I got home I started imagining what it would be like to bring a family from such a different culture to live in Australia. Some of the people U met in India inspired my characters and the story of Bollywood Dreams started dancing around in my head.

My main character, India Singh bounced out with a story to tell. She is mad on dancing and dreams of being a famous Bollywood star. I have enjoyed exploring the world of Bollywood. I discovered a large range of Bollywood movies in our local indian convenience store. The movies i’ve watched are all about three hours long and full of colour, magic, vitality and drama.

I developed some new skills. I now can cook dinner, read english subtitles and dance at the same time.

I hope you enjoy reading Bollywood Dreams. I’d love to hear your feedback and comments. Meanwhile I’ll be busy dreaming up the next story.
